New appointments to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority
24 May 2018
Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources David Littleproud has announced the appointment of Ms Joanna Hewitt AO and Professor Stuart Bunn to act as the part-time members of the Murray–Darling Basin Authority.
Ms Hewitt and Professor Bunn have also been nominated for appointment to the Authority by Minister Littleproud in consultation with the Basin states. Both new members will act in the roles until the substantive appointments are made.
“Ms Hewitt and Professor Bunn will add further expertise to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority at a very important time in the life of the Basin Plan,” Minister Littleproud said.
“Ms Hewitt has a wealth of experience in public and private sectors. She has been a leader in agricultural exports and has a strong background in resource economics.
“She has also served as both an adviser to the World Bank on water policy and a Commissioner of the former Murray-Darling Basin Commission.
“Professor Stuart Bunn is the Director of the Australian Rivers Institute at Griffith University in Brisbane and was previously a Commissioner with the former National Water Commission.
“Prof. Bunn’s major expertise is in the ecology of river and wetland systems with a particular research focus on the science that underpins river management, and he has published widely on this topic.”
Minister Littleproud thanked outgoing Authority members Professor Barry Hart and Diana Davidson for their many years of valuable service to the Murray-Darling Basin.
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources is currently seeking expressions of interest for a pending vacancy on the Authority – one of the two state-nominated part-time member positions.
