Drought Roundtable held in Sydney
1 March 2019
Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud has chaired the latest Drought Roundtable in Sydney.
The Roundtable was also attended by the National Farmers Federation, state farming bodies, Drought Coordinator Major-General Stephan Day, Regional Investment Corporation CEO Bruce King and Department of Agriculture and Water Resources Secretary Daryl Quinlivan.
The Roundtable heard how charities had improved their attitude to buying feed so as not to distort markets.
There was also discussion of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Drought; the need to get water to permanent horticulture plantings.
"I have committed to the Roundtable to help facilitate a more detailed road map to a national drought strategy," Minister Littleproud said.
"I've asked the NFF to facilitate this process.
"It was pleasing to hear the NFF has collected and distributed 100 per cent of the $10 million plus to farmers already.
"I've assured farm groups as far as I'm concerned, the Murray Darling Basin Plan is certain - it's done.
"I'll continue to listen to and work with farm groups as our response to drought continues to evolve."
