Organics industry love in this Valentine’s Day

9 February 2018

  • Love Organic Symposium to be held in Canberra on 14-15 February.
  • Industry stakeholders to discuss growing exports, reducing barriers to exports and creating a new peak representative body.
  • Consultation on the review of regulation of organic exports closes 23 February.

The organics industry is celebrating this Valentine's Day, with the launch of the Love Organic Symposium in Canberra.

Attendees will be invited to have their say on creating a single voice for the organics sectors developing a market access strategy and the regulation of organic exports.

Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources David Littleproud said organic food sales were expected to grow roughly three times faster than overall food sales in the largest markets for organics, including the US, UK and France.

"Australia is well placed to capitalise on the growing love for organics," Minister Littleproud said.

"Some of the world's largest markets for premium organic produce are right on our doorstep.

"Australia has almost 4,000 certified organic operators and the Coalition Government wants to help grow their export markets.

"This government has been working hand in hand with industry representatives, led by Mr Greg McNamara of Norco Cooperative Ltd, to strengthening our organic agricultural industries, delivering $170,000 as part of the Agricultural Trade and Market Access Cooperation program.

"Symposium attendees will hear from international and local industry leaders and those without a hot date will be treated to a BBQ dinner at Parliament House on 14 February, Valentine's Day.

The following day, Deloitte will host a public consultation to discuss a review of the regulation of exports of organic products, aimed at improving access for Australian organic products into premium markets.

The public consultation period closes on 23 February.
