Appointments to APVMA
The Albanese Labor Government has appointed 3 board members to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA).
The appointments will further strengthen the APVMA, continuing our Government’s reforms to the regulator.
The APVMA assesses and registers all pesticide and veterinary medicine products for Australia.
Two APVMA board members – Ms Rebecca Billings and Mr Andreas Clark – are new appointments and will serve a 2-year term from 29 March 2025.
The third, Dr Steve Jefferies AM, has been reappointed for 3 years from 29 March 2025.
The appointees join incumbent Chief Executive Officer, Mr Scott Hansen, who was appointed on 24 July 2024 for 5 years, and Chair, Dr Catherine Ainsworth, appointed on 12 July 2024 for 4 years.
Quotes attributable to Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Julie Collins MP:
“The board members are exceptionally well-qualified. They possess a wealth of expertise and board experience and were appointed through a nation-wide open selection process.
“The APVMA is vital in managing the risks of pests and diseases, which protects trade, the health and safety of people, animals and the environment.”
“This incredibly strong board brings together decades of relevant experience that will safeguard and serve growers, the agvet industry and all Australians.
“I would like to thank outgoing inaugural board members Dr Jeremy Burdon and Mrs Maree Gooch for their service to APVMA over the past 3 years.
