Joint media release: Securing more fertiliser for Australian farmers

The Albanese Labor Government has secured another three shipments of approximately 98,500 tonnes of additional urea for Australian farmers through the Government’s $7.5 billion Fuel and Fertiliser Security Facility. 

The Albanese Government has partnered with Incitec Pivot, CSBP, and Summit Fertilizer to support the purchase of these additional fertiliser shipments, which are expected to arrive in Australia in the coming weeks. 

In partnership with these companies, the Government has now secured around 340,000 tonnes of additional urea for Australian farmers. 

Securing this additional fertiliser gives our farmers the certainty and confidence they need to make planting and growing decisions, supporting food security in Australia and our world-class agricultural exports. 

Around 1.4 million tonnes of urea have been cleared through Australia’s biosecurity system since the escalation of the war in the Middle East in February 2026, with streamlined border processes introduced by the Government helping to get fertiliser to our farmers faster. 

The Government’s Fuel and Fertiliser Security Facility has now secured: 

• around 340,000 tonnes of agricultural grade urea 
• around 740 million litres of additional diesel and 
• around 150 million litres of additional aviation fuel
